MarcoPolo Learning needed a scalable technical foundation for their flagship children's education app. We led the architecture design in Unity and embedded with their team to build the framework that now powers 500+ video lessons, 3,000+ interactive activities, and an International Emmy nomination.

MarcoPolo World School: App Store preview
The challenge
MarcoPolo Learning had an ambitious vision: build a world-class educational platform for children aged 3–6 that would deliver hundreds of video lessons and thousands of interactive activities across STEAM and literacy subjects. The app needed to run smoothly on iOS devices while supporting a massive and growing content library – the kind of scale where architectural decisions made early on would determine whether the product thrived or buckled.
They needed more than a development team to build features. They needed an architecture partner who could design the technical foundations from the ground up and help their internal team build confidently on top of them. That's where we came in.
Our approach
MarcoPolo Learning brought us in at the early stages of product development – before the content scaled, before the awards, before thousands of classrooms adopted the app. This was a consultancy and architecture-led engagement, not a standalone build.
We designed the core technical framework and application structure in Unity, making decisions that would need to hold up as the content library grew from dozens of activities to thousands. We then worked alongside MarcoPolo's own developers, upskilling the team on our architecture, Unity best practices, and the systems we'd designed. The goal was clear: enable them to continue building independently on foundations that wouldn't need replacing.
The results
The scale of what MarcoPolo World School became is a testament to the quality of the architecture we designed. The app holds a 4.4-star rating from more than 3,900 App Store ratings and is used in thousands of classrooms globally.
The accolades speak for themselves: 2019 International Emmy Award Nominee, 2019 Kidscreen Award Winner, 2019 Rockies Award Winner, Parents' Choice Award 2018, and a Common Sense Media A+ rating for educational value. The foundations we laid now power an Emmy-nominated platform used in thousands of classrooms worldwide.
